Hermanus Estate

Hermanus Estate was given this name for one of the most beautiful places I visited  - Hermanus, South Africa where the water and views were breathtaking.  I, Ken Hopper, have resided on this property since 1998 and thoroughly enjoy every minute.  His wife, Susan, joined him in 2013.  The Caretakers, John and Sue, have resided here for over 14 years; if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to them.  They reside on the opposite of the Carriage House apartment.

Hermanus is in the center of year-round activities located in Chestertown, North Creek, Warrensburg, Bolton Landing, and nearby Lake George.  You may be as busy as you wish with activities or you can relax with nature.  It is all up to you!

On the property:

  • Screened Gazebo by the stone wall.

  • Small fire pit, "Overlook", the river and mountains - mid-way down the scenic driveway.

  • By the river, a larger fire pit.

  • Walking paths on the 25 acres or along the pathways onto the adjacent property where you will see deer, bear, and various other animals.

  • Each season has its own characteristics; i.e.,  gardens in the spring and summer, fall foliage, ice flows in the winter and multiple walking pathways throughout the year.  Bring your snowshoes!

  • In the summer, sit and relax by or in the private waters of the Hudson River or visit a productive nearby fishing hole.

History

No Kaire

Prior to Hermanus, the property was called "No Kaire."  The previous owners, Jay and Gay Mahoney loved and developed this property into its present style.  Both loved the Asian culture as depicted.  Even the main house is in the shape of a bird as a typical Japanese summer home.

As you walk along the pathways, you will find a huge koi pond with a waterfall; however, in the winter, the pond is empty.   Wait until the spring!

The Asian culture is depicted on the Carriage House, where you will be staying.
